it's likely that the grand jury verdict on the michael brown incident will be released in the coming days or weeks.. i've no doubt many people are going to feel strongly about things whatever the verdict is.. whatever the outcome though, here's what's not going to happen:.
we're not going to put up with inflamatory language and comments designed to rile others up.
be respectful.. we will not allow accusations of racism simply because some have a view of the verdict that contradicts others.. there will not be invented evidence or claims being repeated - if it's been falsely reported or debunked then it's off limits.. it's not going to be an opportunity for people to air past gripes over past discussions.. if you feel that you cannot discuss the subject in a rational way then it may be better to simply avoid any topics on the matter.. please try to be objective and respectful if you do decide to comment and not keen to take offense.
This thing about j-moseying down the middle of the road is something I've often noticed. When there's automotive traffic on the street it's dangerous, it's rude, it's annoying, and it's needless. It's almost as though it's done to intentionally annoy drivers who'd otherwise be perfectly content to slow down and/or wait for a person to walk across the street who is using at least a normal speed gait.
Then there's those j-walkers who do the same thing crossing the street.
Am I the only one who sees these?
I can definitely believe a traffic cop seeing one of these j-moseying-walkers would take time to direct the walkers to the sidewalk! That's where they belong! That's no stretch at all to me.

Skeeter, I started to comment as you do earlier today. Citizens should get out and vote for representation of their liking. Instead so many Americans have become lethargic when it comes to issues that need a political solution. As things stand we end up vilifying participants in a microcosm of a much larger society rather then fixing the problem. Citizens could get in front of these issues if they wanted to by a little ole thing known as VOTING. But they don’t, which is a big issue all by itself!
Right now I’m readying myself for the next barrage of self-serving political activists preachermen to hit the stage passing the plate one more time.
PT Barnum was right!

Gov. Nixon has declared a State of Emergency ahead of the Grand Jury verdict.
Pope Francis shames the US political Far Right for their No-Amnesty position.
Fundamentalist US Senator Inhofe denies Industrial Pollution is changing the environment and declares- 'only God can change the climate'.
And Designs has left unanswered questions all over the place in this discussion.

... in theory it's a loop with power returning to people at the bottom to control the process through elections, public hearings etc...
The single biggest mistake I see in Ferguson is a disproportionate level of black participation as voters. Several years ago there was a tremendous influx into the area because of housing redistribution, reportedly with no proportionate change in voter demographics.
Hopefully recent events will awaken this civic duty so more in the whole community rise to the occasion to have more say in how government that touches their lives will be run.

The issue of whether it was justified is really what matters.
It will be interesting to, eventually, hear Officer Wilson's testimony about drawing and firing his sidearm as he did.
When you feel like your life is threatened firing multiple rounds is understandable for those who've experienced the sensation. I once had a hunting experience when a wild boar turned for a head-on charge. There were two of us, and we suspected a hog was in bush ahead of us based on rustling of folage. When that thing finally emerged he was charging from not more than 30 feet away. It was a bit unnerving to see a 500lb critter charging straight at us, presumably to inflict harm. In that instance a rifle is worthless. My friend had a rifle in hand and I had a semi-automatic sidearm out, just for such an instance. That critter took several rounds before he even slowed. Every shot fired hit that animal, and he kept on coming until he fell dead in his tracks. When it was over I had 2 of 15 rounds left in my weapon. The whole thing couldn't have lasted more than 3-4 seconds.
We weren't on the hunt for ferral pigs. We were deer hunting, but we knew wild hogs were in the area hence our sidearms. So the event was predictable but surprising.
Of course this discussion is about firing on a human being, and accordingly there is a higher threshold value for choosing when to draw and then when to fire. That said, once decision is made based on fear of life, firing multiple rounds is understandable from my perspective. Honestly, I don't know how many rounds remained in Officer Wilson's sidearm, but if he felt like his life was threatened and he had half his rounds left I'd say his training probably held him back, which is a good thing. In my case I'm sure at least 2 of my rounds were fired after that hog hit the dirt. It sounds like Officer Wilson ceased fire the moment Mr. Brown was down. But, again, it will be interesting to hear what they man has to say about the incident.

One type is where you do community service for 6 months and by degrees the others are jail time.
The cited lawyer said what Mr. Brown participated in was NOT THEFT.
A lawyer who suggests 'Shoplifting is NOT THEFT' is part of the problem.
Hence three questions:
Designs do YOU beleive shoplifting IS theft?
Designs do you AGREE or DISAGREE that a lawyer who suggests 'Shoplifting is NOT THEFT' is part of the problem?
Designs do you AGREE or DISAGREE that a person who threatens violence toward a person engaged in non-violent protest of THEFT is someone who strongly and unfairly dislikes another person’s protest solely because they hold a different opinion?

Most countries have criminal laws which differentiate thefts into degrees of misdemeanors and felonies.
Of course they do. But guess what? Shoplifting is theft.
An attorney suggesting that shoplifting is something other than theft is part of the problem.

I think the use of pejoratives makes it easier for some to let this killing stand as justified.
It is right and proper to express disapproval and/or contempt for bigotry.
Whether the killing of Mr. Brown was justified is a question yet unanswered. I’m not sure we’ll ever have a hard answer to that question, though we will ultimately know whether Officer Wilson will be found guilty by a court of law for homicide.
What we do know, though, is that Mr. Brown had already demonstrated behavior that we pay law enforcement officials to protect society from.

Freeman Bosley is an attorney.
CNN quotes Mr. Bosley portrayal of Mr. Brown’s behavior in the convenience store saying, “My client, Dorian Johnson, he [told investigators about] the situation involving Big Mike taking the cigarillos. This is not a theft, it's more of a shoplifting situation." (See: http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2014/08/us/ferguson-brown-timeline/
